KAPOLEI, Hawaii – Baylor men’s golf wrapped up the fall season with a third-place finish at the Kapolei Invitational on Thursday at Kapolei Golf Club.

Trey Bosco led the BU contingent with a 14-under 202, with Luke Dossey and Johnny Keefer right on his heels with a pair of 12-under 204s. The trio of Bears all carded top-10 finishes to close out the fall semester.

The Bears finished 11 shots behind Loyola Marymount, who took home the team title with a 58-under 806. Marymount’s Trevor Algya took home individual medalist honors with a 17-under 199.

THE RUNDOWN
Bosco started strong with a bogey-free front nine highlighted by a pair of birdies at Nos. 3 and 9. A bogey at No. 10 served as Bosco's lone blemish on the day as he closed with three more birdies at Nos. 12, 13 and 18 to record his fourth-career top-5 finish.

Dossey also carded a clean front side with a 2-under 34, highlighted by birdies at Nos. 7 and 8. His first bogey of the day came at No. 10 before he carded a pair of birdies at Nos. 14 and 15. His final bogey of the day came at No. 16 but was offset by a birdie at No. 17 to card a 3-under 69 and finish tied for eighth.

Keefer also tied for eighth on the strength of a 5-under 67 Thursday. The senior made an early bogey at No. 2 but closed his front side strong with birdies at Nos. 6, 7 and 9 for a 2-under 34. Keefer closed his tournament with a bogey-free back nine and birdies at Nos. 14, 15 and 17.

Zach Heffernan finished the week in a tie for 37th on the heels of a 3-under 69. The junior went out with a bogey-free 34, aided by birdies at Nos. 2 and 7. A birdie at No. 15 offset a bogey at No. 12. His final bogey came at No. 16 before Heffernan finished birdies at Nos. 17 and 18.

Jonas Appel carded a tie for 50th after his career-best 67 on Thursday. Following five straight pars to open his round, Appel closed the front nine with three birdies in his final four holes. The sophomore completed his bogey-free round with a 2-under 34 on the back side, highlighted by birdies at Nos. 14 and 17.

Tyler Isenhart finished the week tied for 25th to lead BU’s five individuals. Additionally, Luke Morgan tied for 55th, Davis Ovard tied for 91st, Patricio Gonzalez tied for 102nd and Sam Dossey finished 112th.

HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Trey Bosco’s 14-under 202 tied for the seventh-best 54-hole score in program history.
  *   Bosco, Luke Dossey, Zach Heffernan, Jonas Appel and Davis Ovard all set or tied their previous career-best round scores this week.
  *   Dossey and Keefer's 12-under 204s tied for the 17th-best 54-hole scores in program history.
  *   With his performance this week, Keefer’s career stroke average improved to 71.51, overtaking Jimmy Walker for the lowest in program history.

QUOTABLE
Head coach Mike McGraw — “We really only struggled in the middle round this week. Our first and last rounds were solid. One of our off-season goals will be to wedge the ball better. Our wedges cost us a lot of shots this week. Overall, I am happy with this fall campaign.”
