WACO, Texas – Baylor equestrian collected 41 selections to the 2023 APHA National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) All-Academic teams and Academic Honor Roll, as announced Friday by the organization.

Nine Bears were named to the NCEA All-Academic First Team, while one earned a spot on the second team and two received honorable mention distinction. Additionally, 29 Bears were placed on the NCEA Academic Honor Roll.

Baylor’s 12 combined first-, second-, and honorable mention team honorees is tied for second nationally among all competing NCEA schools.

First-team members needed to have competed in a minimum of 70 percent of their school’s meets and earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters, respectively.

Second-team members must have competed in a minimum of 60 percent of their school’s meets and earned a cumulative GPA of 3.25 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters, respectively.

Honorable mention selections were those who competed in at least 50 percent of their school’s meets and earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters, respectively.

The top academic student-athletes who earned a cumulative GPA of 3.25 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters were eligible for the honor roll.

BU finished the 2022-23 season at 6-9 overall with a third-place finish in the Big 12 Championship. The Bears earned the No. 8 seed for the NCEA National Championship and will face No. 1 SMU when nationals begin on Thursday, April 13, at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Fla.
