LUBBOCK, Texas - No. 18 Baylor Softball’s offensive outburst pushed the Bears past Texas Tech, 16-11, to take game two of the three-game series Saturday afternoon at Rocky Johnson Field.

The Bears, now 33-10 on the season, set a new season high in runs scored with 16, while three different Bears hit home runs in the matchup.

Baylor was lifted to the win by a seventh-inning grand slam by Ana Watson, the first of her career.

THE RUNDOWN

The Bears got off to a hot start, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. After McKenzie Wilson was hit by a pitch and Amber Toven walked, Shaylon Govan hit a three-run opposite-field home run to give Baylor the 3-0 lead. Sydney Collazos followed up the home run with a double and Ana Watson was hit by a pitch before a call to the bullpen was made. After two-outs, Kaci West singled to load the bases before Collazos came home on a wild pitch.

Texas Tech cut the Bears’ 4-0 lead in half in the bottom half of the first, after two doubles and a single brought home two Red Raiders.

Baylor fought back in the top of the second, with Wilson leading off again with a single up the middle. After a strikeout, Govan walked and Collazos singled to load the bases, before a wild pitch brought home Wilson. Watson walked to reload the bases, before Emily Hott laced a double into center field, bringing home two more runs. The Bears then took the 8-2 lead after a groundout in the second.

Starting pitcher RyLee Crandall struck out two while sitting the Red Raiders down in order in the bottom half of the second inning.

Texas Tech tied the game at 8-8, after back-to-back three run innings for the Red Raiders.

Retaking the lead, BU plated two runs in the top of the fifth inning, after a leadoff single from West and a follow-up double from Wilson brought home the first run. Collazos then recorded her third hit of the game, a single to center field, to make it a 10-8 ballgame.

TTU got a run back in the bottom of the fifth, but Emily Hott’s solo home run in the top of the sixth had the Bears leading by two again.

After Texas tech tied the game at 11-11 in the bottom of the sixth, the Bears were down to their last chance in the top of the seventh.

Leading off yet another inning, Wilson singled to get the Bears’ rally started, before Toven doubled and Govan was walked to load the bases. Another walk issued to Collazos brought home the Bears’ first run, before a grand slam by Watson put the Bears up 16-11.

The Red Raiders got two on in the bottom of the seventh, but Dariana Orme came in to pitch and recorded the last two outs to secure the Bears’ win.
