Baylor MT Qualifies Three Singles, Two Doubles Pairs to ITA Regional Quarterfinals

WACO, Texas – Baylor men’s tennis wrapped up the third day of play in the ITA Texas Regional Championships at the Hurd Tennis Center on Saturday, qualifying three singles participants and two doubles pairs into the main draw quarterfinals.



THE RUNDOWN

First-seeded Tadeas Paroulek opened up singles play against Texas Tech’s Tyler Stewart in a fiery match on court one. It was a three-set thriller, but Paroulek pulled out the win 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. In the round of 16, Paroulek topped Huang 6-4, 6-2 to get the advancing spot to the quarters.



Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi took both his round of 32 and round of 16 matches to three sets, beating Max Amling 6-1, 2-6, 6-1, and Trey Hilderbrand, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.



Finn Bass is the third Bear to advance to Sunday’s quarterfinals after beating Franco Ribero 6-3, 6-2, and Stefan Storch 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.



Doubles play will see the duos of Paroulek and Zsombor Velcz advancing with Bass and Grassi Mazzuchi. Paroulek and Velcz move on after defeating Texas A&M’s Perot/Rollins, 8-5, while Bass and Grassi Mazzuchi beat Rice’s Morais/Sendogan, 8-2.



In an early morning doubles consolation match, Christopher Frantzen and Marko Miladinović found an 8-4 victory over UT’s Arimilli/McDonald. Miladinović returned to the courts and dropped a singles consolation match to TTU’s Wallin, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.



In two more consolation matches, Justin Braverman dropped a 6-0, 6-4 decision to UTA’s Santiago Giamichelle, while Ethan Muza found success against UTSA’s Miguel Alonso, 6-1, 6-2.



Velcz was the only Bear in the main singles draw to drop his match on Saturday, falling to A&M’s JC Roddick, 7-5, 6-2.



WHAT’S NEXT

The Bears return to the Hurd Tennis Center on Sunday morning for the quarterfinal round of doubles beginning at 10 a.m.
