HOCKLEY, Texas – Baylor men’s golf will open the Big 12 Match Play on Monday morning at the Golf Club at Houston Oaks.

The event began in 2018, and since its inception, the Bears have won two of the four tournaments. The last win came in the fall of 2020 when BU went 5-0 with a win over Oklahoma State in the championship match, thanks to a 9-4 hole differential in favor of the Bears.

Baylor enters the fifth edition of the match play as a No. 6 seed, and head coach Mike McGraw is looking forward to watching his team compete at Houston Oaks.

"Playing this championship at Houston Oaks each year is an incredible opportunity for our players and for every team in the conference,” he said. “We have had success here in the past, so we are excited about a return trip.”

Senior Johnny Keefer will play out of the No. 1 spot, making his fourth appearance at the Big 12 Match Play Championship. The San Antonio native has a winning record in all three previous trips to Houston Oaks and boasts an 11-4-2 career record in match play.

Luke Dossey looks to continue his torrid start to 2022 playing out of the No. 2 spot this week. Dossey went 2-3 in his first appearance in Hockley last season and is 3-4 all-time in match play.

Tyler Isenhart will play at No. 3 this week, his first appearance at the Big 12 Match Play since he played one match in the 2019 version. The senior will look to add to a 1-1-1 career match play record.

Trey Bosco will make his third start in the lineup this season, playing at No. 4. Like Keefer, Bosco was a part of Baylor’s last victory at the Big 12 Match Play in 2020 when he beat Oklahoma’s Thomas Johnson for his first career match play victory.

Zach Heffernan will make his second-straight start in Hockley and play at No. 5. Heffernan collected his first-career match play win by beating TCU’s Skov Olesen in 2021.

Jonas Appel will make his first start as a member of the lineup when he takes his place at No. 6 this week. The freshman heads to Hockley, making par or better on 83.9% of his 162 holes played this season, which is tied for the team lead.

The conference is divided into two 5-team pools, competing against each other over the first four sessions. Teams will be awarded three points for a win, one point for a draw, and zero points for a loss. Teams will then be ranked 1-5 within their pool based on the number of points accrued.

During the championship round, the championship match will feature the team with the highest point total from Pool A with the team with the highest point total from Pool B. The third-place match will be between the teams with the second-highest point totals from their respective pools, but each team will participate during the championship session on Wednesday afternoon.
