Bear duo ends season at 25-11, falls to South Carolina pair

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Baylor men’s tennis’ Finn Bass and Sven Lah finish their season in the quarterfinals of the NCAA doubles competition, falling to a South Carolina duo at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex on Thursday afternoon.

This was Lah’s third-straight season to reach the elite eight of the doubles championships, previously competing alongside Jimmy Bendeck and Constantin Frantzen in 2019 and 2021, respectively.

THE RUNDOWN
Third-seeded Bass and Lah fell to No. 18-ranked Connor Thomason and Daniel Rodrigues of South Carolina, 7-6(2), 6-4.

The Bears started off up a break at 2-1 over the Gamecocks. They matched each other and both pushed ahead to 3-2. BU kept up the good work, and made it 5-3. Baylor went down, 6-5, but then tied it up at 6-all. In the tiebreaker, Baylor fell 7-6 (7-2).

In the second set, the duos tied early at 1-1. They kept it back-and-forth, tied again at 3-3, then 4-4. USC kept the Bears back and finished off the second set at 6-4.

Bass/Lah finished the season at 25-11, 9-8 against ranked opponents, and 17-7 in dual matches.

Lah is the outright career doubles wins leader with 115, passing Constantin Frantzen who earned the lead last year at 112.
