WACO, Texas – Baylor athletics has partnered with Opendorse to form the Baylor Bears NIL Marketplace, which will launch one week from today on Wednesday, August 3.

The NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) Marketplace will offer a streamlined access point for organizations and individuals who would like to explore NIL collaborations with Baylor student-athletes, while remaining compliant with NCAA guidelines. Fans, brands, sponsors and donors will be able to browse the one-stop shop to find their favorite student-athletes, offer opportunities for partnership and complete payments.

"We fully support student-athletes earning from their NIL in a way that appropriately recognizes the importance of inclusive opportunity, appropriate market valuations, and positively building one's brand,” Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Mack Rhoades said. “The NIL Marketplace is a significant step in our approach to NIL as it provides an equitable platform from which all Baylor student-athletes can engage. In addition, the marketplace will simplify NIL transactions for our student-athletes and those seeking to connect with them. We will continue to explore NIL opportunities for student-athletes that are in line with our core values, Texas state law and NCAA rules and regulations."

Using Opendorse, all student-athletes can review and accept NIL deals, receive payments, disclose activities for compliance and auto-generate necessary tax documentation. Once deals are approved and completed, compensation at the agreed-upon amount is guaranteed. The Marketplace allows student-athletes to manage all communication within the secure Opendorse app.

All Baylor student-athletes will have opportunities to build NIL Marketplace profiles, highlighting the reach of their social media accounts, along with their interests and preferences for potential partnerships. International student-athletes might be limited to use of the platform to position themselves for future opportunities after graduation due to federal law.

People who wish to enter into NIL deals with international student-athletes should contact their legal counsel prior to entering such an agreement to ensure they are compliant with federal law which restricts people on student visas from most work inside the United States. Likewise, international student-athletes on student visas may not enter into agreements without approval of the Center for Global Engagement. Our international student-athletes may be able to work internationally or a few may have work authorization.
