THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas – Baylor softball outlasted UT Arlington on the road to take down the Mavericks, 2-1, in extra innings Tuesday night at Allan Saxe Field.

The Bears fell behind early, after the Mavericks plated an unearned run in the bottom of the first.

Emily Hott and Ana Watson each singled to begin the game, Hott in the first and Watson in the second, but no runs came across for the Bears.

Starting pitcher Dariana Orme retired the side in four innings, picking up nine strikeouts in her nine innings of work.

The Bears tied things up in the top of the fourth after Zadie LaValley reached on an error and McKenzie Wilson and Hott were issued back-to-back walks to load the bases. Josie Bower reached on an RBI fielder’s choice and plated pinch runner Grace Powell.

Baylor had runners on again in the fifth on a leadoff single from LaValley and a Maverick error put Wilson on first.

Kaci West doubled in the top of the sixth and Watson moved her over to third on a single to center field, but the Bears couldn’t capitalize and bring a run in.

Both teams went down in order in the seventh inning, sending the Bears to their third extra-inning game this season.

After Orme picked up her eighth strikeout in the bottom of the eighth, tying a career high, Wilson blasted a home run past the foul pole in left field to give the Bears the 2-1 lead and the extra-innings win over UT Arlington.

TOP QUOTES
Glenn Moore on the game…
“Wins are always great, but the way we won tonight showed tremendous growth. Our defense was great again with only one error and Dari was amazing in the circle. Ana Watson was seeing the ball well all night and of course Wilson was persistent leading to her game winning home run.
