WACO, Texas – The No. 4-ranked Baylor men’s tennis team swept Midwestern State on Tuesday afternoon at the Hurd Tennis Center, 7-0.

The Bears (23-3, 4-1 Big 12) made quick but efficient work against the Mustangs (14-7, 6-0). BU is now 12-1 at the Hurd this season.

THE RUNDOWN
Starting off strong, Matias Soto & Marko Miladinović bested Corbin Ford and Brice Bradshaw on court two, winning at a quick 6-0. Keeping the momentum, the Bears took the doubles point with No. 5-ranked Finn Bass and Sven Lah winning 6-1 over Alex Martinez Roca and Ben Westwick on court one. Court three fell MSU’s way after staying neck-and-neck, with Stephen Slocombe and Quentin Scharfenberg winning 7-6(2) over Christopher Frantzen and Ethan Muza.

In singles, the Bears fired back up and never cooled down. Finishing first was Miladinović on court four, besting Marcal Miret Avante, 6-1, 6-1 in a quick match. With the first singles point secured, No. 71 Lah followed it up with the second, winning 6-0, 6-1 over Bradshaw on court two. Keeping the momentum, No. 123 Bass took the match over Westwick, 6-0, 6-4, on court three to clinch it.

Playing it out, No. 39 Soto won his match over Martinez Roca on court one, 6-0, 7-5, after the Mustang tried to surge back. On court five, Muza finished off Charles Heffernan, 6-3, 6-3 to make it 6-0. Completing the sweep of MSU was Christopher Frantzen on court six, winning 6-4, 7-5 on court six over Stefan Andrei.

QUOTABLE – Head Coach Michael Woodson
“For us, we have a good size team and not everyone gets the opportunity each match, especially as we get into Big 12 play. This is an opportunity to give some of the guys extra reps to work on a couple of things, and for some of the guys it’s a chance to test themselves in case they’re called upon in the postseason. There were definitely some nerves from a couple of the guys who don’t get to play as much. That’s a very difficult thing for them, to be put in this situation, but that’s why we do it; to make them uncomfortable and to get them the live match play. The guys that play every day did a great job. It’s a tall task to get them to come out and put out their best effort day-in and day-out, but that’s the mark of a great team – that they’re consistent and give their best every single day. These guys are doing that and it’s really impressive. I’m proud of the group and excited for tomorrow.”
