STORY LINES
• Baylor gets things started at Getterman Stadium as the Lady Bears welcome in UT Arlington for their 2021 home opener. The two teams were originally slated to play on Feb. 17, but the game was postponed due to inclement weather.
• The Lady Bears are 52-29-1 all-time vs. UT Arlington. BU is 0-3 the last two years vs. the Mavericks.
• Baylor's last home game was an 0-1 contest to UT Arlington on March 3. Maddison Kettler<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10386> went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lady Bears. Gia Rodoni<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10391> pitched a complete game and gave up one unearned run off four hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
• BU returns to Waco after going 1-1 on Sunday at the Cowgirl Classic in Lake Charles, La. Baylor opened the season with a loss to Arkansas before bouncing back with a win in extra innings over the home team, McNeese State.
• Three freshmen made their Baylor debuts - Sydney Collazos<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10400>, Maren Judisch<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10399> and Zadie LaValley<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10401>. Collazos and LaValley each earned a start behind the plate, while Judisch came on for four innings of relief work in the opener.
• Taylor Ellis<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10382> hit a home run on Opening Day for the second-straight year. Ellis crushed career bomb No. 8 in her first at-bat against Arkansas. Last season, she went yard against Louisville. It marked the 14th Opening Day under head coach Glenn Moore<https://baylorbears.com/coaches.aspx?rc=1633> that a Lady Bear hit a home run.
• Gia Rodoni<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10391> picked up career save No. 6 as she entered in the bottom of the ninth inning against the Cowgirls and retired three batters in a row. She's now tied alongside Kelsee Selman (2016-17) and Liz Paul (2011-14) for eighth in program history.
• UTA is led by KJ Murphy at the plate, who hit .500 on the weekend with a double. Courtney Ogle, Kimber Cortemelia and Waco native Sophie Wideman each have a pair of RBI.
• Baylor stayed steady in the USA Today/NFCA poll at No. 23 but dropped a few spots to No. 21 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll.
• Goose McGlaun<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10389> was named one of 30 candidates for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award. McGlaun is the fourth selection to the preliminary list by a Lady Bear, joining Carlee Wallace, Heather Stearns and Kaitlyn Thumann.
• After 20 seasons as an assistant coach for the Lady Bears, Mark Lumley retired in October before he passed away in December after his fourth bout with cancer. The Baylor players and coaching staff will all be wearing blue ribbons in his honor. This season is for Lum.
