Story lines

• The No. 21 Bears return to Baylor Ballpark to host Nebraska in a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 8 at 6:35 p.m. Game two is set for Saturday, March 9 at 3:05 p.m. and the series finale will be at 12:05 on Sunday, March 10.

• This series was supposed to be played in Lincoln, Neb., but extremely cold temperatures and snow saw the two teams decide to move the series to Waco.

• Friday’s game vs. Nebraska is the team’s first since Sunday’s come-from-behind, 5-4 victory over Texas State because Tuesday’s scheduled contest vs. UT Arlington was moved to May 14 because of cold temperatures in Waco.

Last Weekend Recap

The Bears went 1-2 last week at the Shriners College Classic. On Friday vs. Texas A&M, the Bears ran into the Aggies’ ace Jon Doxakis, who shut down the Bears’ offense through much of the day. However, the Bears still managed to bring the game-tying run to the plate in the ninth inning. Then on Saturday against Rice, the Bears also ran into a tough starting pitcher and only mustered six hits, tying a season-low hits total set the night before vs. A&M. On Sunday, the Bears proved they could fight back from a deficit and rallied to score two runs with two outs in the ninth inning to take the lead. Nick Loftin brought home the game-tying run and a double by Davis Wendzel brought home the go-ahead run. Closer Kyle Hill, who entered in the bottom of the eighth earned the win and put up the most important zero in the bottom of the ninth to close things out. Loftin led the way with a .417 batting average, while Davis Wendzel led the team with 3 RBI. Richard Cunningham was named to the Shriners College Classic All-Tournament team after batting .333 on the weekend with 1 home run, 1 triple, 2 doubles and 1 RBI. On the mound, Jimmy Winston was outstanding, throwing 4.2 innings over two appearances, allowing no runs on two hits with just 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Fellow reliever Daniel Caruso also looked strong out of the pen, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings over two different appearances, allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 4.



NEBRASKA

Former Big 12 foe Nebraska faces the Bears for the first time since it was a member of the Conference in 2011. That year the Bears visited Lincoln and took two out of three from the Huskers. The Bears the Friday game, 6-2, lost the Saturday contest 6-2 and took the rubber game, 2-0 to win the series. The last time the Huskers were in Waco was in 2010 and the Bears took 2-of-3 in that series, winning on Friday and Sunday. The 2019 Huskers come to Waco with a 4-6 record and are fresh off a split at the Frisco Classic, where they defeated then-No. 3 Texas Tech, 2-1 on Friday night before falling to Sam Houston State on Saturday, 11-10.
