STORY LINES

• The Bears, who sit atop the Big 12 rankings return home to the friendly confines of Baylor Ballpark to host No. 12 Texas in a three-game Big 12 series starting Friday, April 5 at 8 p.m. CT.

• The Bears are coming off four-straight road contests where they went 3-1 and their sixth midweek contest of the year, a 5-1 victory to sweep DBU in the midweeks in 2019. The Bears are also coming off their first true road series of the year as they took two-of-three at Kansas to sit atop the Big 12 standings with Oklahoma State at 5-1. The Bears won the doubleheader on Saturday over Kansas to stretch their winning streak to seven-straight games before dropping the series finale on Sunday. The bats continued to be on fire as they outscored their opponents, 44-19 last week.

Game one of the series on Friday will be available on ESPNU nationally. Game two of the series on Saturday will be televised live on FSSW+ and available on the FOX Sports Go app. Finally, game three of the series can be found on FCS and the FOX Sports Go app.

AGAINST TEXAS

• Under the direction of Steve Rodriguez, the Bears are 4-6 against the Longhorns, but they have won two-of-three series since he took the helm in 2016. In 2018 the Bears were swept in a three-game series in Austin, but after that series loss the Bears went on to win their next 23 of 28 games, taking their first Big 12 Tournament title along the way. The last time the Bears and Longhorns met in Waco, the Bears took two-of-three, taking game one 6-2 and game two 4-3 before falling in the finale, 5-3. In 2016 the Bears also took the series over the Longhorns, taking game one 2-1 and game two 3-1 before falling in the finale, 7-6. The Bears also lost in the Big 12 Tournament in 2016 to the Horns, 15-3. Overall the Bears are looking to snap a four-game losing skid to their rival from down I-35.



TOPS IN THE CONFERENCE

• The Bears have started Big 12 play 5-1 and sit atop the conference standings with Oklahoma State. The 5-1 start is the best start to conference play under Coach Rodriguez and the best over the first two weekends of the season since starting 6-0 in 2012.

• The Bears won their series at Kansas by winning games one and two in doubleheader fashion on Saturday, March 30 vs. the Jayhawks. The conference doubleheader victory is the first time in program history since the Bears did so on March 3, 2010 at Missouri. The Bears were led by Nick Loftin who was 8-for-15 in the series against the Jayhawks. On the pitching side, the Bears got two quality starts on Saturday, as Paul Dickens through 6.0 innings, allowing just two runs while striking out a career-best 12 batters. Then in game two of the doubleheader, Jimmy Winston pitched a career-best 7.0 shutout innings, striking out a career-high five batters.
