BROOKINGS, S.D. – The ninth-ranked Baylor equestrian team closed out the meet with Minnesota Crookston to end the regular season on Saturday morning, winning 11-3.

The Bears (5-5, 2-3 Big 12) started the first half of the meet with Crookston on Friday afternoon, leading 6-1 with each event having only four riders going head-to-head instead of five. On Saturday, BU finished off the Golden Eagles (0-10, 0-6 ECAC) with a 5-2 score on the day to come out on top overall.

THE RUNDOWN – VS. UMNC
FRIDAY ACTION
In Flat to start the meet with the Golden Eagles, Lauren Jorgensen’s opponent scored a 0 on Annie, which she met with an 86 for the point and the MOP. Juliette Earley came out and scored an 84 on Sweet Pea, who she had coincidentally drew earlier in the day against SDSU, and her opponent couldn’t catch her, scoring a 71. Madison Mitchell’s opponent scored a 58 on Vita which she turned around and rode to an 85-point ride for the Baylor point. Caroline Robelen rode to a 74-point score on Archie, her UMNC opponent scoring a 52 to complete the event sweep for the Bears at 4-0.

In Reining, Ryan Jensen’s opponent was in the arena first and scored a 64.5 on Gunner, which she upended with a 67 for the point and the MOP. Kalena Reynolds’ turn, she rode to a 68.5-score on Jessie, but her Eagle adversary took the point with a one-point advantage at 69.5. Emily Moomaw faced a 69 from her opponent on Flicka and scored a 69-point ride of her own for a no point decision. Sadie Peters had a 65-point ride on Chester which was followed by a 61.5 from her opponent, BU taking the point and the event at 2-1.

Stopping the meet at halftime to resume the next day, Baylor was up 6-1 against UMNC.

SATURDAY ACTION
Beginning the second half of the meet in Fences, Lauren Reid was up first and rode Nora to a score of 85, which her opponent couldn’t match, scoring a 55 and giving BU the point. Annie Vorhies’ Crookston opponent scored a 72 on Charlie, which she upended with a 76-point ride for the point. Mitchell came out and scored an 82 on Thomas, her opponent scoring a 75 for point Baylor. Jorgensen’s Eagle adversary scored a 55 on Joey which she outdid with an 87 to earn her point and the MOP. Winning the event 4-0, BU was up 10-3 through three events.

In Horsemanship, Anna Thron had the first ride and finished with a 71.5 on Marley, which her Crookston opponent beat with a 74. Carley Rutledge’s opponent scored a 72.5 on Ranger, and she fell just short with a 72 for the point to go to the Eagles. Taylor Smith came out on Snoop, riding to a score of 71, her opponent matching it with a 71 of her own for the tie and no point. Alexis Rutledge’s opponent had a 59.5-point ride on Chili, which she surpassed with a 70 for the green and gold. With the final event finished, UMNC took the last event, 2-1, but BU had the meet, 11-3.

HIGHLIGHTS

  *   The Bears swept on the Flat and over Fences.
  *   Jorgensen scored an 86 in Flat to lead the event, and an 87 in Fences to lead there as well to earn both MOPs.
  *   Emily Moomaw had the high point in Reining with a 69.
  *   For Horsemanship, Carley Rutledge led the event with a 72-point score.
