WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball clinched its series against Loyola Marymount on Saturday with a 6-3 victory at Baylor Ballpark in Waco.

Redshirt sophomore infielder Jack Little came up with a couple big hits, driving in three runs on two doubles, to lead a BU offense that walked 13 times in the ballgame. Redshirt senior outfielder Enzo Apodaca, redshirt senior designated hitter Hunter Simmons and senior catcher Cortlan Castle all drove in runs as well.

On the mound, redshirt sophomore right-hander Lucas Davenport got the win after tossing 3.2 innings of one-run relief and striking out four. Sixth-year senior righty Gabe Craig slammed the door with a four-out save, striking out the side in the ninth to seal Baylor’s third-straight victory.

THE RUNDOWN
After trading scoreless frames in the first, the Bears opened up the scoring in the second inning with the first of Little’s two RBI doubles on the day, scoring senior infielder Tyriq Kemp for a 1-0 lead.

Sixth-year senior southpaw Bryson Bales got the start for BU and dealt for the first two frames before LMU broke through in the top of the third, scoring two runs on two hits to go in front 2-1.

Baylor answered right back in the home half, pushing a tying run across after four-straight walks.

Davenport entered in the fourth and recorded the final out of the frame before BU went back in front with an RBI single off the bat of Simmons and took a 3-2 lead into the fifth inning.

While Davenport continued to put up zeros, the Bears put up a three spot in the seventh with Little’s two-run double and Apodaca’s run-scoring single, pushing the advantage to 6-2.

The Lions cut into the lead in the eight with an RBI double, but that’s all they would get as Craig came on to record the final four outs of the day, including three strikeouts in the ninth to slam the door.

QUOTABLE
Head Coach Mitch Thompson
On clinching the series…
“It was a really good win. LMU came after us and we didn’t get a tremendous start, but we got picked up by Lucas Davenport. We have guys who can pick us up in the bullpen. Jack Little was finally able to give us the big hit with that two-out double, followed by Enzo’s [Apodaca] RBI single. It was also great to see Gabe Craig come out and be real sharp.”

Redshirt Sophomore RHP Lucas Davenport
On the victory…
“I think it just comes down to winning in different ways. Some days our bats won’t be there, and some days our arms won’t, but we were able to pick each other up today and get the win.”

WHAT’S NEXT
