Baylor MT’s Badenhorst Named Big 12 Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Baylor’s Devin Badenhorst has been named the Big 12 Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. This marks the first Big 12 POTW honor in the sophomore’s career.



Putting together an undefeated double-header day on Sunday in men’s tennis season-opener against Lamar and ACU, Badenhorst went 2-0 in doubles and 1-0 in singles.



Opening the day against the Cardinals, the No. 17 ranked doubles duo of Badenhorst and Zsombor Velcz defeated Stefano Chappuis and Santiago Ledesman 6-3. The pair has an overall record of 5-3 dating back to the fall season, four of those being ranked wins.



Back a few hours later, Badenhorst partnered with Luis Jose Nakamine to take down ACU’s Ethan Scribner and Alejandro Verdaso, 6-1.



Following on Court One, Badenhorst took down ACU’s Daniel Morozov 6-2, 7-5.



With the help of the Pretoria, South Africa, native’s wins, Baylor defeated both opponents 7-0. Additionally with the two wins, head coach Michael Woodson earned his 100th win in his head coaching career.



BU is back at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center this weekend, facing No. 4 Wake Forest on Friday at 12:30 pm and No. 2 TCU on Monday at 6 p.m.
