OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Baylor men's golf will be one of 12 NCAA Championship participants from last season teeing it up in the Fighting Illini Invitational, beginning Friday at Olympia Fields Country Club.

The 15-team field features 14 squads ranked or receiving votes in the 2024-25 Golfweek Preseason Coaches Poll. Friday marks BU’s 11th appearance in the event, highlighted by a win in 2019. The course has hosted four majors, including the 2003 US Open and the 2015 US Amateur, won by Bryson DeChambeau.

Zach Heffernan will play in the anchor position for the first time in his career. The senior led the team with 10 birdies last week at the Gopher Invitational and will look to build on his tie for 44th last year in his inaugural trip to the Fighting Illini.

Drew Wrightson is no stranger to Olympia Fields. He is making his third appearance in this event, playing out of the No. 2 spot. The redshirt junior enters this week leading the team, making par or better 83.3% of the time.

Jonas Appel will get the nod at No. 3 this weekend on the heels of his tie for 38th in the season opener at the Gopher Invitational. The junior tied for 60th in his only other trip to the Fighting Illini Invitational last year.

Davis Ovard will make his debut at Olympia Fields at the No. 4 spot. The sophomore looks to regain his freshman form where he finished in the top-10 four times, which was second on the team.

Talented freshman Vincent Stjernfeldt makes his first appearance in the lineup. In his collegiate debut, the big Swede finished tied for 20th in the Minnesota Golf Classic.
