INDIANAPOLIS – Baylor women’s basketball junior, Bella Fontleroy, has been named to the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete Engagement Group beginning the 2024-25 season.

Established in 2020, the Division I Women's Basketball Student-Athlete Engagement Group was formed with a goal of amplifying student-athlete voices in basketball on key initiatives, legislation and issues. The women's engagement group was the first of its kind to be established at the NCAA, with the Division I Men's Basketball Student-Athlete Engagement Group following in 2023. Both engagement groups are made up of one student-athlete representative from each Division I conference, and the groups have a direct connection to the Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Student-athletes were nominated through the WBCA NCAA Division I Conference Captains program. Each captain submitted the name of a player from their team or conference who they believed would be a good representative for all women’s basketball players in their conference.

The term of service for each student-athlete will coincide with athletics eligibility for competition.

Since 2020, the Big 12 Conference has been represented by Madison Williams (Oklahoma), Tatum Veltenheimer (Texas Tech) and Chandler Prater (Oklahoma State).

Fontleroy enters her third season in Waco after tabbing 9.6 points and 5 rebounds per game in her sophomore campaign. She also represents Baylor with football student-athlete Matthew Klopfenstein in the inaugural Big 12 Beyond Borders program. On the program’s trip to Washington D.C. in June, the 32 selected student-athletes visited multiple museums including the National Museum of African American History and Culture and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, spoke on Capitol Hill and completed a community service project at a local elementary school.

Baylor women's basketball is presented by Central National Bank, a family-owned, independent bank headquartered in Waco, Texas, that provides uniquely personal service while simultaneously embracing the latest developments in banking technology.
