SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Baylor women’s golf is tied for 20th place following a 22-over 310 on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club.

The Bears finished Saturday eight shots back of 15th place, where they will need to finish Sunday to make the fourth and final round of stroke play on Monday. Last year, the team was in a similar position, sitting outside the cut-line by a shot after 36 holes. They rallied with a 290 on the third day to make the final round. The top nine individuals on a non-advancing team will also make the fourth round.

On Saturday, sophomore Britta Snyder bounced back from an opening-round 83 with a 2-over 74 to lead BU. It marked the second year in a row that she improved by 9-plus shots in the second round and led the team in scoring in the NCAA Championship. Leading BU off the No. 1 tee, Snyder started with a pair of bogeys but settled into the round and rattled off seven-straight pars to close out the front nine. Following a bogey at No. 10, Snyder carded her first birdie of the championship on No. 12 and followed it up with another one at No. 15. One more bogey dropped her back to 2-over on the round, but she finished with a pair of pars to climb 16 spots into a tie for 109th.

Gurleen Kaur finished with a 6-over 78 to finish in a tie for 69th. The senior opened with a bogey at No. 1 and added two more at Nos. 5 and 9 to record a 3-over 39 on the front. She was one of just two players on the team to par No. 10, but followed with bogeys at 11, 12 and 17 for a 3-over 39 on the back nine.

Addie Baggarly also shot a 6-over 78 for a 36-hole score of 154, a new career-best in her third NCAA Championship. After a double at No. 1, the hardest hole for the week, Baggarly bounced back with BU’s first birdie at No. 3. Bogeys at Nos 4, 5 and 9 dropped her to 4-over through nine holes on her round. Following a pair of pars to start the back nine, the Tennessee native made a bogey at No. 12 and a double at No. 15, but closed positively. She played her last three holes at 1-under thanks to a birdie at No. 16, which pulled her into a tie for 82nd.

Rosie Belsham shot an 8-over 80 and finished in a tie for 82nd through 36 holes. After an opening-hole double bogey, the sophomore made bogeys at Nos. 2 and 5 before carding her first birdie of the day at No. 8 to make the turn with a 3-over 39. Belsham started 3-over on her first two holes on the back nine as well, but strung together six-straight pars until a double-bogey at the 16th. Belsham had a solid close to the round by getting up and down after having to take an unplayable lie penalty, salvaging a par at the 18th.

On Saturday, Hannah Karg also carded an 8-over 80 to sit in a tie for 109th through 36 holes. Karg played her first three holes in four over par with a triple-bogey seven at No. 3, but parred five of her next six holes to limit the damage to a 5-over 41 through nine holes. A double-bogey at No. 10 began her back nine before, once again, she was able to steady things with seven pars in her final eight holes, interrupted only by a bogey at the par-3 13th, en route to a 3-over 39 on the back nine.

No. 1 Stanford leads the tournament with a 4-over 581 through two rounds, four shots ahead of No. 2 Oregon. The Cardinal's Rose Zhang has a four-shot lead at 6-under over Virginia's Beth Lillie at 2-under entering Sunday's third round.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

Head coach Jay Goble: “We're resilient, we're strong. We're going to be tough tomorrow and come out here and shoot something really low. I think that's what we're probably going to have to do to get into the top 15 and even have a chance to make the top eight on Monday night. This team deserves to be in the national championship. These are the best 24 teams in the country, and I think that we're easily one of those. We’ve just had two bad days. It happens.”

WHAT’S NEXT

Baylor will play with Michigan and Oklahoma State in round three, beginning at 2:36 p.m. CT on the first tee with Hannah Karg, followed by Britta Snyder at 2:47 p.m. Addie Baggarly will tee off at 2:58 p.m., just ahead of Rosie Belsham at 3:19 p.m., and Gurleen Kaur will be last off the first tee at 3:20 p.m.
