WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball senior left-handed pitcher Tyler Thomas has been named to the 2022 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Baseball Team for District 7, as announced Thursday by the organization.

Student-athletes are recognized by CoSIDA members for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. To be considered, one must accumulate a cumulative GPA between 3.30-4.00 with at least a sophomore athletic standing, while being a starter or key reserve for their respective team.

Thomas, a fifth-year senior from Keller, Texas, holds a 3.66 GPA and has already graduated with a degree in health, kinesiology and leisure studies and is now working towards his master’s in sport management. He is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 selection, having earned first-team honors in 2021. Earlier this season, Thomas was named a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award for his work on the field, in the classroom and in the community.

In 2022, the southpaw posted a 4-4 record with a 2.45 ERA before suffering a season-ending injury. Thomas struck out 51 batters and walked just nine while holding opponents to a .215 batting average. He didn’t allow more than three earned runs in any of his nine starts this season.

For his career, Thomas posted a 13-11 record with a 3.26 ERA and 229 strikeouts across 207.1 innings. He earned spots on the 2018 All-Big 12 Freshman Team and 2021 All-Big 12 Second Team and was previously named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on March 7 after his career outing against No. 23 UCLA. Additionally, he garnered Most Outstanding Player recognition at the Shriners Children’s College Classic after going 8.2 innings with four hits allowed, one run and a career-high 10 punchouts against the Bruins.

Thomas is the 46th Academic All-District honoree in program history and the seventh selection under seventh-year head coach Steve Rodriguez.

The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. District 7 covers Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in June.
