STORYLINES

LEADING OFF

• Baylor returns to the baseball diamond after a nine-day layoff from action with a three-game series at Kansas State.

• BU currently sits in 8th place in the Big 12 standings at 5-13 in conference play, with 2 Big 12 series remaining.

• The Bears are one game back of K-State (6-12, 7th) and one game ahead of Kansas (4-14, 9th) in the league standings.

• The Bears continue to turn double plays at a high rate, leading the Big 12 and ranking third nationally with 51 total twin killings and 1.13 per game.

• BU has recorded at least one extra-base hit in each of its last 24 games, have notched at least two XBH in 13 of its last 14 games.

• Baylor's pitching staff combined for 11 strikeouts on Tuesday against Tarleton for its 12th double-digit strikeout performance of the season.

• Sophomore LHP Cam Caley carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before allowing an RBI double.

• Against Texas Tech on Sunday, May 1, sophomore OF Kyle Nevin logged BU's first five-hit game since Shea Langeliers did so on June 1, 2019 vs. Omaha as part of the Los Angeles Regional.

• Nevin also tied his career high with 4 RBIs and set a new personal best with three doubles, which also tied the Baylor program record for most doubles in a single Big 12 game.

• Junior INF Jack Pineda leads the Big 12 and is tied for 11th nationally with five triples. He sits two behind the nation's leader with seven regular-season games to play.

• Five triples are the most by a Bear in a single season since Richard Cunningham led the team with five in 2016.

• Baylor also ranks second in the league with 12 total triples on the year.

BY THE NUMBERS

• Baylor holds a 52-30 advantage in the all-time series over Kansas State.

• Under seventh-year head coach Steve Rodriguez, the Bears are 9-7 against the Wildcats.

• BU has won each of the last three series vs. K-State, including a sweep the last time the Bears visited The Little Apple.

• Baylor is 7-3 against K-State over the last 10 matchups.

• Entering the weekend, BU is just one off the nation's lead of 52, currently held by New Mexico and New Orleans.

• Sophomore 2B Tre Richardson has an assist in 36 of those 51 twin killings so far this season.

• The Bears rolled just 33 double plays in all of 2021 (0.65 per game).

TRIPLES TRIBUTE

• Jack Pineda leads the Big 12 and ranks 11th nationally with five triples.

• The fourth-year junior shortstop is just two three-baggers shy of the nation's leader.

• Pineda's five triples are the most by a Bear in a single season since Richard Cunningham led the team with five in 2016.

• Pineda's sixth triple would be the most by a BU player in a single season since Brooks Pinckard in 2010.

• No Bear has reached seven triples since Ben Booker in 2007 and that mark has only been reached 11 times since 1970.
