Yes. Very well written and played out. Nuanced. There was a bitterness there, in the acting and writing. Beautifully played out by Shelia. The part where she reverted back to childhood memories before she died. That's very real isn't it. And het final line " father, can I have a peach". A very peaceful end for Jean.

Apparently, the marriage soured between Jean and Edwin for a couple of reasons. Jean's deteriorating health played a part, but also she continued to resent the fact that Edwin permitted son Robert to go off to war.

Yes, sad. Perhaps due to her health.
Maybe these things happen to couples.
Happy New Year All

It's funny but since the lads have grown up and all in their 20s and No sign of children and one is married, one almost. I see little of them. An hour on Christmas day so I've turned to re-watching Christmas episodes of a family at war. Comfort viewing even though the Ashton family did not always have a merry time. Particularly Jean.

One of the saddest lines for me was when Jean said to Edwin " don't touch me, don't ever touch me again". So sad as in the beginning of the story they were such a close couple.
