The opening theme is taken from the first movement of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ 6th Symphony. This was actually written in 1948 and the last movement (Epilogue) is reminiscent of a bombed out wasteland, a very eerie ending to a symphony. On another note, I have been in contact with a friend of Lesley Nunnerley (Margaret Ashton Porter) who tells me that Lesley has turned 90 this year and is not enjoying good health at the moment. I was in contact with Lesley a number of years ago but I have not had any response to messages. She does not like talking about her AFAW days, which is a great pity!Robin Stopford

I'm not really a classical music buff but I do like the theme music, particularly the opening theme and the simple titles with the sandcastle was so appropriate for the opening and close.
Also like how we hear wartime tunes peppered through the episodes. I remember Sefton singing along to ' we hang out the washing on the Sigfrid line, have you any dirty washing mother dear ' and we hear a bit of Gracie fields on the radio in an episode too.
