BRYAN, Texas – Back in Texas for the first of three-consecutive tournaments in the Lone Star State, the 24th-ranked Baylor women’s golf team will play in the 22nd “Mo” Memorial that begins Monday at The Traditions Club.
The 15-team tournament includes four top-50 teams, with the Bears and third-ranked Texas A&M host team joined by No. 34 Kansas and 35th-ranked Missouri in a reunion of the former Big 12 rivals. Rounding out the field are Tulsa, Texas State, Louisiana-Monroe, UTSA, UNC-Charlotte, ACU, Western Kentucky, Lipscomb, Sam Houston, Northern Colorado and Toledo.
Baylor is coming off its ninth top-5 finish of the season, shooting 7-under 857 to place fourth in the PING ASU Invitational behind only second-ranked USC, No. 23 Arizona State and Cal State Fullerton. The Bears beat a pair of top-20 teams in 14th-ranked UCLA and No. 19 Northwestern in the 16-team field.
Sophomore Malena Castro recorded her team-high sixth top-10 finish of the season, rolling in a birdie on the par-4 18th to tie for eighth at 4-under 212. Senior Silje Ohma strung together five birdies and shot 5-under 31 on the back nine to rally for a 1-under 71 in the final round and tie for 12th at 3-under 213.
Junior transfer Yurang Li gave the Bears a third top-20 finisher, tying for 18th at even-par 216, while freshman Amelia Wan tied for 31st at 4-over 220.
After playing as an individual in the ASU Invitational, Charlotte Brook is back in the lineup at the No. 5 position behind Ohma, Bridget Boczar, Li and Castro.
This is the Bears’ final tune-up for the Big 12 Championships that will be held April 23-25 at the Dallas Athletic Club, and Waco is the host site for an NCAA Regional scheduled for May 11-13 at Ridgewood Country Club.
Monday’s opening round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 8:30 a.m., with Baylor paired with Texas A&M and UTSA. Live scoring is available at The “Mo” Memorial<https://scoreboard.clippd.com/tournaments/238655/scoring/team>.
