WACO, Texas – Baylor track and field declared 23 student-athletes in 28 entries for the 2024 NCAA DI West Preliminary Rounds, held May 22-25, at the University of Arkansas’ John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville.



Leading the pack in the women’s selections is Alexis Brown in three events: the long jump, 100 meters and 4x100-meter relay. Makayla Long joins Brown in doubling up for two individual events: the shot put and discus throw.



Both 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays on the women’s side qualified, with the 4x100 and Molly Haywood (pole vault) ranked with the highest seeds at No. 4.



The men’s squad features Laurenz Colbert entered in four events: the 100 meters, 200 meters, 4x100-meter relay and the 4x400-meter relay. De’montray Callis and Colbert both declared in the 100- and 200-meter dashes.



Sitting at the top of his event in the west, Nathaniel Ezekiel’s 48-flat gives him the No. 1 seed in the 400-meter hurdles, while Chinecherem Prosper Nnamdi enters at No. 3 in the javelin throw. Prosper Nnamdi’s actual season- and personal-best throw of 271-8 at the African Games does not count in collegiate rankings but would also land him a first seed in the region.



Participants who finish in the top 12 at the regional meet punch their ticket to the NCAA Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., held June 5-8.
