IRVING, Texas – Baylor track and field landed the Big 12 Men’s and Women’s Athlete of the Week honors in the second week of outdoor competition, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.



Alexis Brown and Demar Francis earned their first-career recognitions after stellar performances at the home-opening Clyde Hart Classic in Waco on Friday and Saturday. In the meet, Baylor tabbed seven overall titles with two additional collegiate wins.



After a record-breaking indoor season, Brown popped the NCAA-leading program-record long jump of 21-11 on her first outdoor attempt in two years and repeated at the same length on attempt No. 6. The second-year transfer from Florida beat out the 2004 program-best mark of 21-10 ¼ set by April Holliness at the NCAA Regional Meet in College Station, Texas.



Returning a day later in the 100 meters, Brown also put the 11th-fastest mark in the nation down, winning the event with an 11.42-second race.



Brown shares the Women’s Athlete of the Week honor with UCF’s Kiah Williams.



Francis wins the men’s honor after putting the fourth sub-46-second 400-meter race in the DI performance list for the 2024 outdoor season. Running a conference-leading 45.90, Francis beat out defending Big 12 400 champion Zarik Brown of Oklahoma, with the third-fastest mark in the country.



Closing the meet with the 11th-best NCAA outdoor 4x400-meter relay time, Francis joined Kamden Jackson, Ricquan Graham and De’montray Callis to run a 3:08.33.



BU is back for another weekend of track and field at LSU’s Battle on the Bayou on Friday and Saturday. The pole vault squad stays close to home to compete in the Lone Star State at the 96th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and at Texas State’s Bobcat Invitational.
