Baylor Baseball Falls in Series Finale at Texas
Pair of five-run innings leads Longhorns over Bears in Sunday’s 11-1 affair

AUSTIN, Texas – Baylor baseball (8-15, 3-6) couldn’t overcome a pair of crooked numbers against Texas (15-9, 4-2) on Sunday, dropping an 11-1 affair in eight innings at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin.

The Bears mustered just five hits, including two by senior infielder Daniel Altman who also drove in a run for the fifth-consecutive game.

Redshirt junior right-hander Drew Leach and senior lefty Kobe Andrade did well in relief to hold the Longhorns to just one run over six innings, but five runs off starter Mason Green and another five-spot in the eighth inning were enough to take the rubber match.

THE RUNDOWN
Texas put up five runs in the first inning behind five hits, including an RBI single, a two-run home run and a solo shot. A wild pitch in the inning also allowed a run to score.

That chased Green from the ballgame and brought in Leach, who retired the first seven he faced before allowing a solo home run in the fourth to UT’s Max Belyeu, his second blast of the day.

After two scoreless innings by Andrade, Baylor plated its lone run of the afternoon in the top of the seventh thanks to Altman’s RBI single.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Longhorns got to freshman right-handed reliever Stephen Sepulveda for four hits before he could record an out, as Belyeu hit his third home run of the day, a grand slam, to make it 10-1. An RBI groundout capped off the ballgame, as the Longhorns took the finale in run-rule fashion and claimed the series.

HIGHLIGHTS
• Senior INF Daniel Altman logged his fifth multi-hit game of the year, going 2-for-2 with a walk.
• Altman also drove in a run for the fifth-consecutive game.
• Junior OF Wesley Jordan extended his team-leading on-base streak to 15 games, tying for a team high in 2024.
• Junior INF Hunter Teplanszky has now reached safely in seven-straight games.
• Redshirt junior RHP Drew Leach pitched a career-high three innings in relief and matched his personal best with three strikeouts.
• Senior LHP Kobe Andrade made his longest relief appearance of the year, going three innings, and worked his fifth scoreless outing of 2024.

“They kept us in the ballgame. They gave us every opportunity to try and get back in it, and we couldn’t piece anything together offensively which is a disappointment. I’m disappointed in how the game started and how it ended. In between, those two guys were a bright spot and I’m proud of them for that.”
