WACO, Texas – Baylor track and field opened the Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium with the first day of the Clyde Hart Classic with a full schedule on Friday.

The Bears pocked two event wins, as Ellie Hodge took the title in the women’s 1,500 meters and Alexis Brown broke the outdoor program record en route to the event win in the long jump.

Meanwhile in Ghana, Chinecherem Prosper Nnamdi rocketed to another new program record in the men’s javelin throw, winning the African Games javelin throw title with a rocket at 82.80 meters.

THE RUNDOWN

Officially becoming the best women’s long jumper in Baylor history, Brown set the outdoor program record in her first outdoor meet in two years, jumping to the 21-11 mark twice. That mark dethrowns April Hilliness who hit 21-10 ¼ 20 years ago in College Station, Texas, at the NCAA Regional meet of 2004. She also joins Holliness (2002-05), LaKadron Ivery (2002-05), DeAna Carson (2007-10), Caira Pettway (2019-22) and Alex Madlock (2018-22) as the only Bears in program history to go over the 21-foot threshold.

Competing with Brown, Koi Johnson took eighth with a 19-2 ½, while Nikayla Fitzgerald finished 16th, Ale Rutenis finished 19th and Isabella Copeland finished 20th.

Hodge won the Bears’ second event of the day in the women’s 1,500 meters, behind a 4:21.51 race. She was followed closely by Rachel Hickey in her first Baylor race, ending in the bronze medal position in 4:23.35. Jackie Addy was eighth, ahead of another Bear in her intro race, Ruth Kimeli, finishing 12th. Rosanna Pugh led the next pack of Bears in 23rd, with Jordan Ledington, Alaina Zamorano and Chloe Gangnath back-to-back-to-back in 24th, 25th and 26th positions.

The women’s pole vault was full of Bears as Molly Haywood finished second, Alencia Lentz finished third and Tenly Kuhn finished fourth. Kuhn went 13-1 ½ for a new personal best on her birthday, behind Haywood and Lentz’s 13-9 ¼. Raynah Cheng and Keidra Mills also competed, finishing 18th and 19th, respectively.

The men’s event saw Parker Brannon with the highest finish of a freshman at the No. 4 spot, clearing two bars to 16-0 ¾. Chandlar Ifft got in the action on Friday, taking 11th at 15-1.

Trpimir Siroki made his long-awaited Baylor debut in the long jump on Friday evening, where he took third place with a wind-legal 24-7 leap. Unyime George Obote II took 20th and Nicholas Rodriguez was 22nd.

Tiriah Kelley was the Clyde Hart silver medalist among collegiate runners in the 200-meter dash, clocking a 23.92-second race. Kayla Hunt was the next Bear to finish, taking the collegiate fourth spot at 23.92, and was followed by Imaobong Uko in 10th, Summer Sergeant in 13th and Michaela Francois in 24th.

The Bears were led onto the track by Jasmine Gryne who was the top finish for BU in the women’s 400-meter hurdles at 7th in 1:00.23. Allie Scott, Sima Lucero and Audrey Williamson all finished together at 22nd, 23rd and 24th.

The 3,000 meters saw Bears finish in each of the spots Nos. 3-7. Abby Morris led in third, Anna Garner finished fourth, Kat Helmer finished fifth, Ryan Vasquez finished sixth and Kira Dietrich finished seventh. The men’s event saw a similar finish, as freshman Aiden Ramshaw took the No. 2 overall spot in the race, followed by Nolan Keenan seventh, Devin Duran ninth, Straton Miller 10th and Caleb Ackman in 12th.

Victoria Adu opened the day in the women’s hammer throw with a finals berth after taking ninth after the first three preliminary throws. Her 177-0 throw was the best of the day to end in ninth, followed by Makalya Long in 19th.

Later in the day in the discus throw, Long returned to take third in the event, throwing 170-3, her best mark between this season’s two meets.

Although tripped up, Ryan Hodge still had the top spot with Baylor runners in the men’s 1,500 meters, taking 12th after 4:01.11. Freshman Ben Archer was the final Bear competing, finishing 15th with a 4:03.94.

The men’s 200 meters featured Ricquan Graham in 16th and Jack Jackson in 32nd in a field that saw former BU-great Wil London win the silver medal.
