LEADING OFF

• Baylor Baseball hosts No. 23 Texas Tech for a three-game series this weekend at Baylor Ballpark in Waco.

• According to Pro Baseball Radar, BU faced the nation's toughest schedule through the first month of the season based on 2023's RPI and win percentage.

• Baylor plays 26 games against the RPI top-50 this season, the most in the Big 12.

• The Bears have already played five games against ranked opponents (Tennessee, Indiana, DBU), and a sixth against a team that was receiving votes (Oregon).

• 56% of Baylor's offense (80 of 142 hits) has been produced by underclassmen or players in their first season at Baylor.

• True or redshirt freshmen have accounted for 45% of innings pitched on the mound this season (62.1 of 139.0).

• Eighteen Bears have made their Baylor debuts so far in 2024, including 13 players making their Division I debut and nine freshmen making their collegiate debuts.

• The Bears are coming off a 17-4 drubbing of SFA Tuesday night, in which Harrison Caley<https://baylorbears.com/sports/baseball/roster/harrison-caley/12995> became the first Bear in five seasons to drive in seven or more runs, as part of his 4-hit, 2-homer evening.

• All nine Baylor starters hit safely, as the offense produced a season-high 17 hits and 17 runs, its most in a single game since scoring 19 against Kansas on April 15, 2022.

• The radio broadcast will be available on 104.9 FM KBHT in the event that Baylor Men's Basketball is competing simultaneously at the Big 12 Championship Tournament in Kansas City.

WHAT'S HAPPENING AT BAYLOR BALLPARK

• Friday night is Baylor's third annual Go Gold game at Baylor Ballpark. BU will also hold a postgame fireworks show.

• The Bears are 0-2 all-time in Go Gold games.

• Saturday is Baylor's Greek Attendance Challenge and first installment of a 2024 mini poster giveaway series.

• Sunday will feature St. Patrick's Day themed promotions, including a Shamrock Cup giveaway.

• Baylor is 30-15-1 all-time in St. Patrick's Day games.

GROWTH IN YEAR TWO UNDER THOMPY

• Through the first 16 games of the season of 2023 and 2024, though the Bears held the same 5-11 record, BU is hitting 34 points higher and holds a lower ERA by a run and a half this season.

THE LAW FIRM OF CALDER AND HAIL

• Sophomore LHP Ethan Calder<https://baylorbears.com/sports/baseball/roster/ethan-calder/12994> and redshirt junior RHP Patrick Hail<https://baylorbears.com/sports/baseball/roster/patrick-hail/13047> are becoming BU's go-to relievers out of the bullpen, and for good reason as the duo both boast sub-1.60 ERA's.

• In seven relief appearances, Calder has posted three scoreless and three hitless outings. The southpaw's usage has not been limited to left-handed hitters, as he's gone longer than an inning four times.

• On the year, Calder owns a 1.59 ERA, has struck out 13 batters, has not allowed a walk, and collected BU's only save of 2024.

• One of the more experienced arms in the BU bullpen, Hail has been fantastic with a 1.17 ERA across five separate outings, four of which have been scoreless.

• Hail has been used in a variety of ways, including a 3.1-inning win in relief, and escaping a few jams at Houston in an inning or less.

YOU GO, WE GO, 'ZO!

• Redshirt junior OF Enzo Apodaca<https://baylorbears.com/sports/baseball/roster/enzo-apodaca/13013> has either scored a run or driven in a run in 21 of the 35 times (60%) he has reached base this season.

• In the 48 innings that Baylor has scored at least one run, Apodaca has reached base in 26 of them (54%).

• Apodaca recently moved in to the top-10 in the Big 12 batting average leaderboard, hitting .390.

JUMP ON 'EM EARLY

• 48 of BU's 93 runs so far this season have been scored in the first four innings (52%).

• Baylor has out-scored its opponents 23-18 in the first two innings.

• The Bears matched their season high with a seven-run inning on Tuesday against SFA.
