Bears defeat Ducks in Go Gold meet

WACO, Texas – No. 1 Baylor acrobatics & tumbling defeated No. 2 Oregon on Sunday, 278.935 to 271.835, at the Ferrell Center in a battle of the best.

The Bears (3-0) defeated the Ducks (1-1) by 7.1 points for the win.

BU has now defeated UO in nine of the last 10 meets and improves the overall series record to 23-13. Baylor is 13-5 on their home mat at the Ferrell Center against the Ducks.

The Bears increase their winning streak to 30 meets, dating back to March 27, 2021.

THE RUNDOWN
Starting off the meet, Baylor had a Compulsory score of 38.40. A score of 9.75 was garnered in Acro, 9.95 in Pyramid, 9.80 in Toss and an 8.70 in Tumbling. Going into the second event, BU was up 38.40 to Texas Oregon’s 37.850 score.

Moving into the optional portion of the meet, Baylor had a score of 9.850 in Heat 1, 9.650 in Heat 2 and 9.950 in Heat 3 of Acro to total 29.450 for the event. The Ducks had scores of 9.550, 9.550, and 9.600 respectively, for a total of 28.70. Going into the Pyramid event, BU was up 67.850 to OU’s 66.550.

In the Pyramid event, the Bears earned a 8.050 in Heat 1, the inversion heat. In heat two, BU earned a 9.90, the synchronized heat. In heat three, the open heat, the Bears scored 9.80. With the event scoring a 27.750, the running total was updated to 95.600 for Baylor. OU totaled 29.450 for the event and had a score of 96.00 going into halftime, the Bears down 0.4 points on the Ducks

In the Toss Event, Baylor had scores of 9.750, 9.650 and 9.450, respectively, to total 28.850 for the event. The Ducks scored a 9.250, 9.550 and 9.750, respectively, to total 28.550. Going into the fifth event, Tumbling, the Bears were down 124.450 to OU’s 124.550.

In the Tumbling Event, Heat 1 (Duo) with Emily Bott (FR) and Kristen McCain (SR) scored a 9.700. In the Trio Heat (Heat 2), Payton Washington, Rakel Jeffries and Aliyah Kaloostian scored a 9.450. The Quad Pass (Heat 3) had Aliyah Thomas, Charlyze Hemby, Dailyn Hopkins, and Emi Nelson scored a 9.00. The Aerial pass from Emily Bott earned a 9.80, Payton Washington in the 6 Element pass (Heat 5) had a 9.825, and Kristen McCain in the Open pass (Heat 6) earned a 9.750. The Bears’ total came to 57.825 for the event, while the Ducks scored a 57.125. Going into the night's final event, BU was up 182.275 to 181.675 from Oregon.

In the Team event, Baylor earned a score of 96.660 while OU earned a 90.160, bringing the meet score to a total of 278.935 to 271.835, BU taking the win.

HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Baylor extends its win streak to 30 meets in a row, dating back to 2021
  *   BU outscored OU by 7.1-points overall for the eighth-straight win against the Ducks
  *   The Compulsory Pyramid, 7-element Acro and 6-element Tumbling heats all earned Baylor’s highest score of the day with a 9.95.

NEXT UP
The Bears will head on the road to compete at Iona on March 3 and at LIU on March 5. Start times are set for 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. respectively. Both programs are in their first year.
