Baylor Athletics Has 75 Named to Fall Academic All-Big 12 Teams

IRVING, Texas – A total of 75 Baylor student-athletes earned a place on the 2023 Academic All-Big 12 Teams, announced by the conference office.

The Fall Academic All-Big 12 Teams recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at Conference institutions that participate in fall sports.

Of the first-team honors, football led the way with 23 honorees, while men’s and women’s cross country accounted for 13 spots, soccer had 12 and volleyball had nine.

Off the field, the Bears had 258 total academic champions, 133 student-athletes achieved personal best GPAs and a fall term GPA of 3.30. As almost 70% of all Baylor student-athletes had a 3.00 or higher GPA, 57 athletes had a perfect 4.00 term GPA with five from volleyball and four from women’s cross country.

Five BU athletes named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team had a perfect 4.0 GPA during the fall semester.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshman and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
