LINCOLN, Neb. – Baylor track and field opened the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational on Friday afternoon at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Indoor Track at the University of Nebraska.



The Bears posted three event wins in the men’s and women’s open 400 meters and the women’s long jump.



THE RUNDOWN

In her 2024 open 400 season debut, Imaobong Uko picked up the first-place finish in 53.93 seconds. Gontse Morake took ninth overall in 56.04 and Jasmine Gryne was 19th in 57.29. In another set of 400 season openers, Demar Francis took the win in the men’s race at 46.61 seconds, while Nathaniel Ezekiel was on his heel in 47.03 seconds for third.



In her first long jump contest after breaking the program record in the first meet of the season, Alexis Brown tied the fourth-best jump in program history at 20-8 ½ to take the event win, the first of her career. Koi Johnson also finished in podium position, taking third with a 19-5 ½ jump.



Making up half of the eight-runner finals field in the 60-meter dash, four of Baylor’s five student-athletes advanced through the preliminaries on Friday evening. Brown led the pack and took second overall at 7.39 seconds. Michael Francois ran her best time of the season, a 7.44, for third, followed by Tiriah Kelly in sixth and Bria Bullard in eighth. Brown, Francois and Kelley all advanced by winning their heats, while Bullard clocked one of the two other fastest times of the night. Kayla Hunt also competed and took 10th.



With two Bears entering the men’s 60-meter sprint prelim, two Bears also exited into the final. De’montray Callis was second overall in 6.73 seconds, while Laurenz Colbert crossed fourth after 6.77 seconds.



Gary Moore Jr. finished the men’s weight throw just inches shy of his personal-best mark that holds the program record. The sophomore put a 67-8 ¾ throw in the books to bring home the bronze medal.



Slinging a personal best on her very first throw, Makayla Long popped another on her second attempt at 58-10 ¾. After the first flight, Long led the field by over four feet. After Flight Two and the final three attempts, she finished eighth behind Victoria Adu in sixth at 58-11 ¼.



Freshman Parker Brannon took 18th in the men’s pole vault, crossing two bars to 15-7 ¼, while sophomore Aren Spender finished the men’s long jump in 18th at 21 feet-even.



Tenly Kuhn closed the night for the Bears, crossing three bars in the women’s pole vault to tap out after 12-4 ½.

Baylor continues Nebraska’s Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational on Saturday, with the first event scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. CT.
