Baylor WT Travels to Seattle to Face Washington State, No. 21 Washington
The matches are BU’s only two against Pac-12 programs this season

WACO, Texas – Baylor women’s tennis will head to Seattle on Saturday to take on Washington State at 1 p.m. The team will remain in the Pacific Northwest through Sunday to play No. 21 Washington at 2 p.m. Both matches will be played at Nordstrom Tennis Center.



The Bears and the Cougars have not met since the 2019 season. Baylor was edged by Washington State, 4-3, at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center in Waco. The Cougars jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before the Bears battled back with a trio of singles victories to knot the score, but the match came to a close when No. 63-ranked Michaela Bayerlova outlasted BU’s No. 70 Livia Kraus 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 6-2 in three sets to clinch the victory.



Baylor and Washington met last season at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center, where the Bears claimed the doubles point but the Huskies came out on top, 5-2. Isabella Harvison was the lone singles winner for Baylor, earning the 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory at the No. 2 position.



ABOUT THE BEARS

Baylor is coming off a 4-1 win over SMU in Austin during ITA Kickoff Weekend. Miska Kadleckova defeated Taylor Johnson 6-2, 6-3, on court one while Isabella Harvison and Danielle Tuhten each picked up their first singles wins of the season. On the year, Kadleckova is 2-0 in singles action and picked up her first doubles win with Tuhten against the Mustangs.



ABOUT THE COUGARS

Washington State is off to a 4-0 to start this season and are 2-0 in neutral contests. Their most recent victory was a 7-0 win at Boise State. The team is led by sophomore Eva Alvarez Sande, who is undefeated on the season with four-straight top singles victories and four-straight doubles wins with partner Elyse Tse.



ABOUT THE HUSKIES

Washington enters the weekend 4-0 and has a pair of home wins over Eastern Washington and Gonzaga. Sunday’s match against the Bears marks the third of a ten-game homestand for the Huskies. Washington will face Boise State on Friday before hosting the Bears. The Huskies are led by sophomore Erika Matsuda, who is 2-2 in singles play and 4-0 with partner Sarah-Maude Fortin in doubles.
