Baylor A&T Earns Seven Individual Event Titles
Bears bring home extra hardware

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – No. 1 Baylor acrobatics & tumbling qualified for every Event Final, earning seven individual titles on Sunday, one in every event.

The Bears added to the trophy case after earning their ninth-straight NCATA National title the day before.

THE RUNDOWN
In the five-element acro heat, Riley Chimwala bases both Payton Washington and Jordan Gruendler. They entered the competition with the highest score of the week across all teams competing. The trio earned the Six-Element Acro title on Sunday with a score of 9.775, besting Kutztown, Mary Hardin-Baylor, Gannon and Oregon.

The synchronized six-element acro heat features Charlyze Hemby, Ally Joswick, Alyiah Thomas and Adelaide Vezzosi as tops, with Riley Chimwala, Zoë Collins, Addy Grandy and Meredith Wells as bases; Morgan Brown served as the counter. The group earned the individual title on Sunday, earning a 9.675 and besting Glenville State, Frostburg State, Gannon and UMHB.

Completing the acro sweep was the seven-element heat featuring Gruendler and Humphrey, with Aliyah Kaloostian as the counter. The Bears earned a 9.950 to take the title on Sunday, beating out Lander, Gannon, Quinnipiac and Fairmont State.

The Inversion Pyramid heat features Gruendler as the top, Humphrey as the mid-level base, with D’Ahni Branch and Riley Chimwala as main bases. The Bears took the heat at a 9.925, beating out Iona, Gannon, Oregon and UMHB.

The 450 Salto Toss title went to Baylor with a score of 9.725, besting Glenville State, Gannon, Quinnipiac and Oregon. Washington is the top with Humphrey as the back, Brennah Cotner in front, and Meredith Wells with Chimwala as main bases. Kaloostian is the counter.

Savannah Cecil initially tied with Limestone’s Kacie Kier so they both competed their six-element pass again to determine the winner. Cecil earned the trophy with a score of 9.85 in her pass, also besting Oregon, Quinnipiac and Gannon.

Last but not least, Washington earned the trophy for the Open Tumbling Pass with a score of 9.875. She bested tumblers from Hawaii Pacific, UMHB, Fairmont State and Azusa Pacific for the title.
