AUSTIN, Texas – No. 24 Baylor Softball battled against No. 1 Texas but fell, 9-6, Saturday afternoon at Red and Charline McCombs Field.

THE RUNDOWN
The Bears came to fight off the bat, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. With one out, Presleigh Pilon reached on an error, before Shaylon Govan singled to put two on for Abi Flores. The catcher then singled up the middle to score Pilon and give Baylor the 1-0 lead. Sydney Collazos followed Flores’ hit with a single of her own to re-load the bases before a two-RBI double off the bat of Aliyah Binford put BU by three runs.

Texas was able to get back all three runs in the bottom of the third, tying the game on a couple of hits and two Baylor errors.

With the game knotted at 3-3, Baylor loaded the bases again in the second inning but wasn’t able to bring any runs home. Pitcher Aliyah Binford and the Baylor defense effectively retired the Longhorns in order in the bottom half of the second.

Texas was able to take the 4-3 lead in the bottom of the third with a two-out single up the middle, but BU was able to capitalize in the next inning.

After Emily Hott tripled to lead off the top of the fourth, Govan hit a sacrifice fly to deep right field to again knot the game, 4-4.

The Longhorns tacked on two runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings, as Baylor added a single run in the fifth and sixth innings to take it an 8-6 ballgame.

Baylor’s run in the fifth inning came after singles from Binford and Ana Watson. The Bears’ sixth run came home in the sixth inning after a solo home run from Govan.

Texas was able to add another run in the sixth on another solo homer, which secured its 9-6 victory.
