SAN ANTONIO, Texas – No. 24 Baylor Softball defeated UTSA, 2-1, Tuesday night at Roadrunner Field, as head coach Glenn Moore collected his 900th Baylor win.

THE RUNDOWN
The Bears struggled to get going offensively, as they were retired in order in the first and third innings. Sydney Collazos singled in the top of the second to get the Bears going and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt before a double to right field from Taylor Strain put runners on second and third. That would be it in the second, as a line-out ended the threat.

UTSA took the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third after the leadoff batter was hit by a pitch and a fielder’s choice and single through the left side put two on. A Baylor error brought home the Roadrunners' only run of the game before the bases were re-loaded, but the Bears were able to work out of the jam.

BU was able to capitalize in the fifth after Taylor Strain reached on an error and stole second to put one on for Ashlyn Wachtendorf. The center fielder then roped a single through the right side that allowed Strain to score from second and knot the game, 1-1.

The Roadrunners loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth, but Baylor worked out of the jam to keep the game tied.

Not wanting the game to go to extras, Strain hit a one-out single up the middle in the top seventh to get a rally started for the Bears. After Strain stole second, Wachtendorf came up clutch again, hitting a single to left field to bring home the run and give Baylor the 2-1 advantage.

Baylor shut things down in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory and give head coach Glenn Moore his 900th Baylor win.

HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Ashlyn Wachtendorf drove in both of Baylor’s runs with two hits
  *   Taylor Strain scored both of BU’s runs while recording two hits
  *   Strain had the only extra-base hit of the game, a double and also stole two bases
  *   Sydney Collazos recorded a hit
  *   RyLee Crandall picks up the win in the circle, improving to 11-5 on the season
  *   Kaci West struck out two in her 4.0 innings of work


UP NEXT
The Bears will face No. 1 Texas in a conference series this weekend, at home on Friday, April 12, and in Austin Saturday-Sunday, April 13-14.
