STILLWATER, Okla. – No. 31 Baylor men’s tennis battled in a 4-2 loss to No. 33 Oklahoma State on Sunday afternoon at the Greenwood Family Tennis Center, the site of the 2024 Big 12 Championship and the NCAA finals.

The Bears (18-9 (2-4 Big 12)) dropped their second-straight and ended the six-straight winning streak over the Cowboys (16-7 (3-3 Big 12)) after collecting singles wins from Oskar Brostrom Poulsen at Court Six and Devin Badenhorst at Court Three.

THE RUNDOWN

Finding the doubles point between the top two courts, Francisco Pini and former Bear Alex Garcia struck first against Luc Koenig and Badenhorst in a 6-2 result for the Cowboys. Clinching the point in a matchup that featured back-to-back ranked duos, 30th-ranked Tyler Zink and Isaac Becroft took a 6-3 victory from No. 29 Tadeas Paroulek and Zsombor Velcz.

Christopher Frantzen and Brostrom Poulsen were nearing a win at the third doubles court, up 5-3 over Alessio Basile and Leighton Allen.

Bears built up momentum in singles, taking four first sets across the six singles matches against Oklahoma State. Brostrom Poulsen rolled right along, taking down Ty Wunderlich, 6-2, 6-4, to knot the match at 1-all. No. 99 Badenhorst tabbed just his third career ranked singles win over No. 71 Garcia, 6-3, 6-4.

Oklahoma State responded with three straight points to end the matinee and win their senior day match.

Pini closed Louis Bowden’s three-match winning streak with a 6-4, 6-1 result on Sunday just before Basile came back after Koenig’s first set win to put the Cowboys one point away, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.

Court One was the decider in the match, as 23rd-ranked Zink fought off multiple surges from 68th-ranked Paroulek, eventually squeezing through after a breaker to win, 6-4, 7-6(5).

The No. 2 singles match was unfinished in the third set after No. 88 Velcz and No. 78 Becroft split their first two sets. Becroft had one game down as the match was clinched and halted.

UP NEXT

Baylor heads back to the Lone Star State to face No. 5 Texas in Austin on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. The match will be broadcast on Longhorn Network from the Texas Tennis Center.
