WACO, Texas – Jay Goble announced the addition of Canada’s Yeji Kwon and South Korea’s Jeonghyun Lee on the first day of the fall signing window on Wednesday.

Both players come to Waco with a laundry list of junior accolades, which has head coach Jay Goble excited about adding them to an already talented Bears roster.

“Yeji and Jeonghyun come to us after decorated junior careers, and we are excited to add them to the mix next year,” he said. “Both have experience competing in some big-time tournaments and winning on an international stage, so we feel like they will be valuable additions to our program for years to come.”

After a 4-over 148 in the stroke-play portion of the 74th US Girls Junior Amateur, Kwon won a pair of matches to reach the round of 16 before eventually falling 3&2.

The native of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, collected five junior titles over the last three years, including the 2022 Canadian Junior Girls Championship. On the heels of an opening-round 75, she played her next three rounds at 14-under par to secure a nine-shot victory over Lucy Lin.

In addition to her five wins, she also secured top-10 finishes with a tie for ninth at the 2022 Toyota Junior World Cup and a tie for third at the CJGA Western Canadian Championship at Mayfair Lakes.

Lee joins the Bears from Seoul, South Korea, where she attends Collegiate Academy of Seoul. She signs with 51 worldwide junior wins, but also has plenty of professional tournament experience. The youngest player to ever make the Korean national team, has six appearances in professional tournaments including the 2022 US Women’s Open. Kim finished as the low amateur in the Brian Green Property Group NZ Super 6’s Manawatu, Hana Financial Group Championship, and Nexen Saintnine Masters on the Korean LPGA Tour.

In May of 2022, Lee won the 33rd Seoul Association President’s Cup Golf Tournament, while finishing second in the 35th Seoul Mayor’s Cup and Korea Junior Golf Championship

Blue One Cup.

Kwon and Lee join a squad which could include a pair of All-Americans in Silje Ohma and Sera Hasegawa, along with BaiMai Seema, who has seen action in the last two NCAA Championships. Ashleen Kaur was named a 2023 Rolex Junior All-American, while Yoonjeong Huh, Hannah Herbel and Mallory Matthews have all seen action for the Bears this season.

Baylor’s current crop of players will resume the season at the Match in the Desert on Jan. 22, 2024, at Superstition Mountain Golf Club in Gold Canyon, Ariz.
