Baylor Softball Has Two Named to NFCA All-Region First Team
Govan and Orme are Bears’ first pair of first-teamers since 2018

WACO, Texas - Baylor softball had two named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Central Region First Team, announced Thursday by the organization.



First baseman Shaylon Govan and pitcher Dariana Orme were both names to the first team, which marks the second year in a row the Bears have had a player named to first team. It is also the first time since 2018 that BU has had two or more on the top team.



A sophomore from Katy, Texas, Govan leads BU with a .380 batting average, 11 home runs and 51 RBIs. She is the first Bear to reach double-digit home runs since 2019 and set a single-season record with seven sacrifice hits. She also leads the Big 12 in walks while holding a .519 on-base percentage. Govan hit the three-run homer that propelled the Bears to a 4-3 non-conference win over No. 1 Oklahoma, earning her a Big 12 Conference Player of the Week honor.



As the Bears' ace, Orme leads the conference in innings pitched (148.0) and is third in the conference in strikeouts (126). She has 31 appearances on the year and leads the conference in shutouts (6). Orme tossed the first seven-inning perfect game in program history this season and also threw a no-hitter against then-No. 21 Maryland. She picked up three Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honors and one National Pitcher of the Week award this season.



The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first-, second- and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all student-athletes now become eligible for the 2023 NFCA Division I All-America squads.

The 2023 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced on Wednesday, May 31.
