Quote from head coach Joey Scrivano:

"Well, let me tell you, it's been quite a journey. Winning 500 matches is simply a testament to many incredible players, assistant coaches, administrators and staff who, along with my family, have been a part of this from the start. It's an honor to share this milestone with each of them. Of course, I also want to thank the donors and fans who support women’s tennis and make this all possible. I also have to give a shout out to Lenka Broosova, who shares more than 150 of these wins as both a Baylor student-athlete and now as a coach on my staff.

Winning is a team effort, and I'm proud to have been a part of some great teams in my career. I’m looking forward to the next 500, God willing."

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Baylor women’s tennis secured the 4-2 victory over Kansas State on Sunday afternoon, as head coach Joey Scrivano collected his 500th-career victory and 440th with the Bears.

Scrivano is in his 21st season leading the Baylor women’s tennis program and has directed the Bears to two NCAA Final Fours, six NCAA Elite Eights and 11 regular-season Big 12 Championships. Scrivano, a six-time Big 12 Coach of the Year selection, has led the Bears to eight Big 12 Tournament Championships. He took over the Bears in 2003 after three-consecutive Sun Belt Conference Championships at South Alabama.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Baylor secured the doubles point with 6-2 victories by Isabella Harvison and Anita Sahdiieva and Alina Shcherbinina and Brooke Thompson on No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

In singles action, Shcherbinina earned her second-straight win with a 6-1, 6-1 victory on No. 2 to give Baylor the 2-0 advantage. Kansas State responded by securing the 7-6, 7-5 win on court one to cut into its deficit, but a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 victory by Sahdiieva at No. 3 singles pushed the Bears back ahead by two.

After dropping the first set, Liubov Kostenko battled back to take the second and third sets on No. 4 to clinch the match for Baylor, helping the Bears win their first Big 12 contest of the season.

The Bears return the Hurd Tennis Center on Tuesday to host Denver at 6 p.m.
