Fullerton, Calif. – No. 20 Baylor softball took down Cal State Fullerton, 5-2, Wednesday afternoon, to open day one of the Louisville Slugger Invitational.



The Bears, who are now 18-2 on the season, defeated the Titans at home after a three-run fifth inning gave them insurance runs.



THE RUNDOWN

Baylor got on the board in the first inning, after Amber Toven walked and stole second and Shaylon Govan singled, allowing Toven to come home on a throwing error.



The Bears added another run in the third inning, when McKenzie Wilson walked and stole second to put one on with one out. Following back-to-back walks from Govan and Emily Hott to load the bases, Sydney Collazos recorded a sacrifice fly to left-field foul territory to bring home Wilson.



Toven led off the fifth inning with an infield single and Govan walked before Hott reached on an error and Toven came around to score. Collazos recorded another sacrifice fly to plate the Bears’ fourth run of the game. Another Titan error plated Baylor’s final run of the inning and gave them the 5-0 lead.



Cal State Fullerton plated a run in the bottom of the fifth and the bottom of the seventh, but the Bears were able to secure the win.



HIGHLIGHTS

Dariana Orme pitched a seven-inning complete game, striking out seven and only allowing one earned run.



Taylor Strain and Sydney Collazos recorded doubles in the outing. Collazos also recorded a team-leading two RBIs.



Four different Bears recorded a hit in the game and Baylor picked up nine walks as a team.



WHAT’S NEXT

The Bears will face Boston University and tournament host Long Beach State in a doubleheader on Thursday starting at 2:30 p.m. CT.
