WACO, Texas – Baylor track and field opens the national championship season around the world on Thursday with entries in the United States, Nigeria and Jamaica.

The Bears will send four current student-athletes to compete at the 2023 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field.

Mariah Ayers (200m), Kamden Jackson (200m) and Matthew Moorer (400m) get the chance to qualify to this year’s World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, held August 19-27.

Moorer kicks off BU’s portion of the meet at 7:23 p.m. CT for the first round of the men’s 400 meters. Jackson’s first round of the 200 meters begins at 6:43 p.m. on Saturday and is followed by Ayers at 7:09.

Gary Moore Jr. is the only Bear in the U20 competition and is entered in the shot put, discus throw and hammer throw competitions. The hammer throw leads off his time in Oregon at 7:30 p.m. CT on Friday, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday with the shot put at 3:15 and discus at 5:00.

Former Bears Trayvon Bromell (100m), Wil London III (400m), Aaliyah Miller (800) and KC Lightfoot (pole vault) all will compete at the senior championships en route to an entry at the World Championships.
