FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Baylor track and field wrapped up the first day of competition in the Razorback Invitational at the Randal Tyson Track Center. Luke Anthony made a splash in the heptathlon on Friday, while Matthew Moorer and Demar Francis dazzled in the 200 meters.

The men’s 200 had two Bears break the cumulative top-10 with Moorer finishing fifth with a 20.96 and Francis finished ninth after 21.06 seconds. Ricquan Graham crossed the line 18th-overall followed by Preston York running a PR of 22.32 to finish 39th.

In the women’s shot put, Makalya Long won her flight and finished seventh-overall after throwing for 49-11 ¼, a new personal-best that moves her up to No. 3 all time in Baylor program history.

After one day of competition in the heptathlon, Anthony currently sits 15th overall in the event, 14th among collegians.

Anthony’s Day One total mounts to 2,598 points after running a 7.33 in the 60 meters, jumping 21-1 ½ in the long jump, 5-9 ¾ in the high jump and throwing 35-11 ¼ in the shot put.

Cole Hardan found another spot on the program all-time list after he threw 56-7 ¼, good enough for the 10th-best performance for a Bear in program history. Gary Moore Jr. followed up in 15th and Cooper Mack finished 18th.

Ben Conacher finished seventh in the pole vault competition, clearing 17-0 ¾ successfully on his second attempt. Chandlar Ifft also competed in the event, a first for him as a Baylor Bear, but finished with a no-height.

The women’s 200 meters was led by Mariah Ayers, who crossed the line 24th overall, followed by Summer Sergeant in 44th, Jasmine Gryne in 54th and Bria Bullard in 55th.

True-freshman Aren Spencer missed a finals-qualifying spot after finishing 21st with a 22-5 ¼ in the long jump competition. In the women’s event, Alexis Brown qualified to the finals, where she finished seventh with a 19-4 ¼ mark. Keviah Ealy finished in 10th place with an 18-5 ¾, Koi Johnson finished 11th with an 18-4½ and Alexandra Rutenis followed with a 18-0 ¼.

Both Bears, Aïcha Moumin and Moorea Long, tied for 10th place after jumping to 5-6 in the women’s high jump, only one inch less than Moumin’s previous seasons-best in Lubbock at the Corky Classic.

QUOTABLE

Head coach Michael Ford

“It is always interesting to see how we respond to three meets in a row. I was pleased with Makayla Long in the shot put, after she threw a personal best and five throws over 15 meters, as well as moving to third all-time in the program top-10. I was pleased Matthew Moorer and Demar Francis finishing in the top-10 in the 200m, and it was good to Alexis Brown back jumping, finishing seventh. Luke Anthony also had a solid first day of the heptathlon. We have another full day tomorrow, but looking forward to day two of the Razorback Invite!”

WHAT’S NEXT

The Bears return to the Randal Tyson Track Center for Day Two of the Razorback Invitational Saturday morning at 9:10 a.m.
