WACO, Texas – No. 25 Baylor softball defeated Minnesota, 3-2, in eight innings Friday night at Getterman Stadium.



The Bears, who are now 10-1 on the season, played their second of two games to end day one of the Baylor Invitational with a 2-0 record.



Minnesota, which run-ruled Texas A&M-Commerce in its first game of the day, battled back to tie it at 2-2 in the seventh before Shaylon Govan had a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth.



The Bears’ 10-1 record is the best start to a season since 2011, when the Bears opened 14-0 and went on the WCWS semifinals later that year.



Baylor scored two runs in the second and one in eighth to secure the win.



THE RUNDOWN

Emily Hott drove in the first run with a double to right-center after a leadoff triple by Aliyah Binford. Presleigh Pilon was responsible for bringing in the second run after a sacrifice fly plated Hott.



The Gophers plated a run in the top of the fifth, after two-errors sent a Minnesota base runner home.



Minnesota tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the seventh after a single brought home a runner from second base.



After Taylor Strain was placed on second to start the eighth inning and moved to third on a groundout, Govan hit a sacrifice fly to deep right field to bring home the run in walk-off fashion.



HIGHLIGHTS

The Bears tallied eight hits against the Gophers, including a 3-for-4 outing from leadoff hitter McKenzie Wilson.



Presleigh Pilon completed two incredible plays at second base, including a throw home in the top of the eighth, which led to Sydney Collazos laying the tag down at home and stopped the Gophers from scoring in extras.



Govan came up clutch again, leading to the Bears’ winning run.



WHAT’S NEXT

Baylor will start day two of the Baylor Invitational against Texas A&M-Commerce at 12:30 p.m. Saturday and then will play game two against a to-be-determined opponent at either 2:30 p.m. or 5 p.m.
