WACO, Texas – Baylor acrobatics & tumbling swept the weekly awards from the NCATA, the organization announced Wednesday.

Kamryn Kitchens was named Athlete of the Week, Jordan Gruendler earned Specialist of the Week and Gianna Cameron garnered Freshman of the Week honors.

It is the fourth time the Bears have swept the weekly accolades from the NCATA, doing so twice in 2021 and once in 2018.

Kitchens, a senior top and tumbler, competed in 10 heats overall as well as the team event at Trine. None of the scores from her heats earned below a 9.3, with her start values placed at 9.9 for two heats and 10 for the rest. Her solo aerial pass in tumbling was the highlight of her day, scoring a 9.925/10. She also competes as part of the trio pass. She is the top in Compulsory Acro, Toss and Pyramid, Pyramid heat 2, and Toss heats 2 and 3. In the team event, she is the top in both acro segments, two tosses, and one of the bridge pyramids while also competing two running tumbling passes and one standing tumbling pass.

Gruendler, a sophomore top, earned the award for her specialty in the Pyramid event. She and the Bears earned a perfect 10.0/10.0 score for the inversion pyramid in heat one for the second week in a row, which she dubbed the “Tower of Terror” last year. She competes an extended handstand on a mid-level base and two main bases. She dismounts from the handstand position in a free fall from the top. The pyramid earned the Individual national title last year at the NCATA Championships. In heat three, she competes an extended straddle press to handstand on a mid-level base, which scored a 9.95/10.0.

Cameron, a base and tumbler, competes in six heats as well as the team event, tying for the most heats a freshman has competed this season. She is a base in Compulsory Acro and Compulsory Toss as well as Toss heats 1 and 2 and two tosses in the Team Event. She is a part of Compulsory Tumbling and the Tumbling quad pass, and competes three passes overall in the Team Event. In addition, she is the bridge of a bridge pyramid in the Team Event. The heats she competed in did not score below a 9.2 and all but the quad pass were valued at a 10.0 or higher.

BU returns to the mat on Sunday against No. 14 Presbyterian with a 3 p.m. start time in the Ferrell Center.
