WACO, Texas – Baylor men’s tennis lost its midweek bout against third-ranked TCU on Wednesday evening, 4-1, at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.

BU (5-3) junior Tadeas Paroulek found victory twice on the night, with a win in doubles with freshman Zsombor Velcz, followed by a singles win on Court Two.

THE RUNDOWN

The Horned Frogs No. 3 duo of Pedro Vives and Sebastian Gorzny struck first with a 6-1 win over Luc Koenig and Ethan Muza to open the evening.

Court Two saw a comeback win from Paroulek and Velcz, who were down 4-1, to end up with a 7-5 victory over TCU’s season-long No. 1 doubles duo, 11th-ranked Sander Jong and Lui Maxted.

TCU clinched the doubles point after taking a close victory on Court One with Luc Fomba and Jake Fearnley’s 7-5 decision over No. 9 Finn Bass and Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi.

In singles, No. 17 Fearnley got TCU its first singles victory with a 6-3, 6-1 final on Court One over No. 44 Bass.

Shortly after, No. 117 Paroulek got a banner win over the former British ITF juniors No. 1, Jack Pinnington, in his first collegiate match, 6-3, 6-4. Paroulek now finds a 5-1 record this season, which lands him tied with Marko Miladinović and Zsombor Velcz for the team lead in singles wins.

Points three and four came from No. 124 Gorzny, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, over No. 125 Grassi Mazzuchi on five and No. 49 Luc Fomba, 7-6(4), 6-3, over Miladinović on three.

The two remaining singles matches were left unfinished with Velcz taking Jong to three sets (7-6(8), 4-6) on Court Four and Muza also taking Maxted to three sets (7-5, 2-6) on Court Six.

QUOTABLE

Head coach Michael Woodson

On Wednesday’s match…

“You have you give credit to TCU. They came in strong after a long road trip to Tennessee and North Carolina, but we pushed them by winning the first four sets. We had a lot of opportunities today, but it ends up as a learning experience for us. We’ll continue working to be ready for Friday night against Arizona.”

WHAT’S NEXT

Baylor hosts No. 18 Arizona for a regular season matchup on Friday night at 6 at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
