WACO, Texas – Baylor acrobatics & tumbling’s Riley Chimwala has been named NCATA Specialist of the Week, the NCATA announced Wednesday.



Chimwala, a junior base from Plano, Texas, earned the award for the Acro event after competing in Heat 1 (5 Element) and Heat 2 (6 Element Synch) at a high level as a single base, both with top Emily Tobin.



Chimwala is the only base in the country to compete the single base toss to extended position, and is also the only base to compete the low to high single base 180 twist. Both these elements are seen in Heat 1. The 5 Element heat scored 9.85 out of a possible 10, with a raw score of 10.3.



In Heat 2, she competes both the hand-to-foot segment and the hand-to-hand segment of the heat. That heat scored a 9.35 out of 10.



In addition to the acro event, Chimwala is a base in Compulsory Acro (scored 9.75/10), Compulsory Pyramid (9.8/10), and Compulsory Toss (9.95/10), all as a base.



She was the mid-level base for the Heat 2 Pyramid which scored a 9.85/10.



In the team event, which scored an 87.45/108.10, she contributes as a base in two tosses, which scored a 9.9 and 10, respectively. She was the solo mid-level base in one of the bridge pyramids with a start value of 10. In addition, she contributes six of the 30 required acro elements with an average start value of 9.925.



In addition to Chimwala’s accolade, Gianna Cameron was named Honorable Mention Freshman of the Week and Bayley Humphrey was named Honorable Mention Athlete of the Week.



The Bears face Trine on Saturday in Angola, Ind., with a start time of 12 p.m. CT in the MTI Center.
