Baylor A&T Ready to Open Season Against West Liberty

WACO, Texas – The Baylor acrobatics & tumbling team starts its season on Sunday, hosting West Liberty for a 3 p.m. meet in the Ferrell Center. It is BU’s “Go Gold” meet, where fans are asked to don gold apparel and the team will wear their new gold uniforms.



The meet is one of five that the Bears will host at home in Ferrell this season.



In the only previous meeting, Baylor opened the 2019 season with a dominant win over the Hilltoppers, 275.805-227.695, in West Liberty, W.Va.



Baylor Director of Operations Treasure Fields was the inaugural head coach of the Hilltoppers, named in 2016, with the program’s first season taking place in 2018. Fields has been with the Bears since the 2020-21 campaign.



BU has 14 newcomers and welcomes back 28 returners from its previous season for the 2023 campaign. Alumna Courtney (Pate) Oates returns to her alma mater as an assistant coach after serving UMHB as its inaugural head coach for two seasons.



The Bears received 32 first-place votes to top the 2023 Preseason Coaches’ Poll from the NCATA, the eighth season in a row to rule the rankings.



The reigning and seven-time NCATA Champion will debut new skills in both the Acro Event and the Team Event as it did last year, dazzling with new hand-in-hand elements. Jordan Gruendler and Bayley Humphrey, both from acrobatic gymnastics backgrounds, shine in the fresh skills for the Bears.



Head coach Felecia Mulkey enters her ninth season at the helm of the program, eighth with assistant coach Kelsey Rowell by her side.



The meet will be streamed on ESPN+ with the “Voice of the Bears” John Morris on the call with Baylor A&T alumna Ashley Echelberger on the call.
