LUBBOCK, Texas - No. 18 Baylor Softball dropped its series opener against Texas Tech, 10-8, Friday night at Rocky Johnson Field.

The Bears, now 32-10 on the season, hit two long balls in the game that saw five total home runs from both sides.

Baylor had two Bears record a multi-hit outing, but came up short after Texas Tech put up six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

THE RUNDOWN

The Bears fell behind early after the Red Raiders hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the third to take the lead.

BU recorded its first hit of the game in the top of the fourth, when Shaylon Govan hit a moon shot that sailed over the trees in left field. Sydney Collazos followed the home run with a single, but a double play erased the runners and ended the inning with the Bears trailing, 3-1.

Kaci West led off the fifth inning with a double to left-center and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Taylor Strain reached on a fielder’s choice that had both runners safe after an overthrown ball to third base.

With the Bears within a run, the Red Raiders regained a two-run lead in the bottom of the fifth.

Collazos started a six-run rally in the sixth when she led off the inning with a single through the left side. After a walk was issued to Emily Hott, Ana Watson singled to load the bases. With bases full of Bears, Kaci West singled to the pitcher and advanced to second on the throw after the ball bounced off the pitcher’s glove and into the outfield, which brought home two Bears and tied the ballgame.

A groundout brought home another run before McKenzie Wilson reached on an error and gave the Bears the 6-4 lead. Amber Toven added to the Bears’ advantage when she hit a home run over the wall in left-center field, giving Baylor the 8-4 advantage.

With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Texas Tech put up six runs to regain the lead after a triple and two home runs, and that was enough to secure the 10-8 win for the Red Raiders.
