GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Baylor track and field wrapped up the first day of competition at the Tom Jones Memorial on Friday at the Percy Beard Track and James G. Pressly Stadium.

Ukuru Koko and Chinecherem Prosper Nnamdi highlighted the day for the Bears, taking a pair of top-two finishes on the podium in the high jump and 400-meter hurdles, respectively.

THE RUNDOWN

In his best mark since joining the Baylor squad, Kojo crossed 6-8 ¼ at the high jump on Friday, just missing the 6-10 ¼ bar that would’ve given him a new personal best. Also in silver, Prosper Nnamdi threw a 232-1 to take second behind the national leader, Keyshawn Strachan from Auburn.

Over at pole vault, Ben Conacher was the highest-finishing Bear after a 16-10 clearance to find spot No. 3 in the final standings. Chandlar Ifft also competed, finishing 21st.

It was a double PB-setting day in the women’s 200 meters, as Imaobong Uko (23.10s) and Bria Bullard (23.69s) both ran the fastest marks in their collegiate careers. Mariah Ayers led the two with a 22.90-second race in 12th.

The men’s 200 meters was breezy, but Hasani Barr slipped in under the limit at 20.82 seconds for 17th and a new PB. Kamden Jackson clocked a 20.60 with a +2.3 wind, while Dillon Bedell crossed at 21.01 with a +3.0 wind.

Nathaniel Ezekiel was right at the lead through the first 300 meters but ended up fifth with a 49.44. The sophomore ended just under three-tenths of a second behind the 2022 World Championship bronze medalist, Trevor Bassit.

Gary Moore Jr. also finished fifth in the men’s hammer with a 187-6 throw. Redshirt freshman Cooper Mack was behind at 161-11 to take 16th. Staying in throws, Cole Hardan recorded an eighth-place finish at 59-2 ¾.

In the women’s edition of the 400-meter hurdles, Gontse Morake led BU with a 57.46 and 17th place, while Jasmine Gryne was 48th in the event.

Closing the day, Sophia Leidner hit a six-second PR in the 1,500 meters with a 4:30.89 to find the 20th spot.
