ABILENE, Texas - No. 18 Baylor Softball run-ruled Abilene Christian, 15-6, Thursday afternoon at Poly Wells Field.

The Bears, now 32-9 on the season, tied a season high in runs scored with 15, previously set against Minnesota on Feb. 26.

Baylor notched 16 hits in the matchup, three hits short of a season high set in the Bears’ first game of the season.

THE RUNDOWN

The Bears got off to a hot start, scoring six runs in the top pf the first. After a leadoff single from McKenzie Wilson, Amber Toven launched a ball over the right field wall to give the Bears the 2-0 lead. With no one out, back-to-back singles and a walk loaded the bases for Ana Watson, who laced a double to right-center to score two more.

With the 4-0 lead, a sacrifice fly brought home the Bears’ fifth run of the inning. Baylor had seven of its first eight batters reach base, before a fielder’s choice brought home the Bears’ last run of the inning.

ACU scored two in the bottom of the first on an in-the-park home run to make it a 6-2 game.

BU added a run back in the top of the second after pinch-runner Jensen Vienne stole home to push the Bears’ lead back to six runs.

An error and timely hits in the bottom of the second contributed to the Wildcats scoring four runs that cut the Bears’ lead to 7-6.

After two scoreless frames for both teams, the Bears got two runners into scoring position in the top of the fifth, when they capitalized on a groundout to give them a two-run cushion.

Baylor, wanting to end things early, got the sixth inning started with a single before a fielder’s choice and walk put two runners on with one out. Ana Watson, who was 3-for-3 at the plate, hit the Bears’ second long ball of the game, a three-run shot that put BU up, 11-6. After a follow-up single and a walk, back-to-back singles plated two more runs and extended the Bears’ lead to 13-6.

Just one run away from an eight-run run-rule, Amber Toven laced a double down the right-field line and scored two more Bears to give BU the 15-6 advantage.
